BBL Cup 2018/19
The easycredit BBL-Pokal 2018/19 (after a name change of sponsor from the semi-final MagentaSport BBL Pokal ) was the tenth edition of the cup competition in the German men's basketball club as a league cup of the first national basketball league . The organization of this competition was subordinate to the league association of the basketball league and served to determine the German cup winner in club basketball for men.
It was the first time the competition was held after its reform. FC Bayern Munich entered the competition as the title holder . The cup final took place on February 17, 2019, in which Brose Bamberg prevailed against Alba Berlin in front of a home crowd . For Bamberg it was the sixth cup success.
mode
The cup mode has been fundamentally changed compared to previous years. In the old mode, the six best teams in the first half of the Bundesliga played for three starting places for the top four tournament . The tournament host was automatically qualified. The 16 Bundesliga clubs who managed to stay in the league in the previous season are taking part in the new mode . These play in a knockout system to win the cup. Each tournament round consists of a single game, the winner of which advances to the next round. Both the home right and the matches are drawn anew in each round. The top four at the end of the competition was abolished. In January 2019 it was announced that the competition would be named after the new name sponsor Magenta Sport from the semi-finals .
