Beat Gerber (born May 16, 1982 in Oberlangenegg ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with SC Bern in the National League since 2003 .

Career

Beat Gerber began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth team at EHC Oberlangenegg, then moved to the SCL Tigers team , for whose professional team he made his debut in the National League A in the 1999/2000 season , receiving four penalty minutes in 25 games. Gerber was rapidly as one of the most promising Swiss defensive back under 20, only Beat Forster and Severin Blindenbacher , both of NHL - franchises were drafted were ranked higher. During his time in Langnau, he also played for the second division teams HC Ajoie and EHC Visp . In the summer of 2003, the defender moved to SC Bern , with whom he won the Swiss championship straight away in the 2003/04 season . He scored six points scorer in a total of 60 games. With SC Bern, the left-handed player qualified for the Champions Hockey League in the 2007/08 season , in which he was on the ice in all four of his team's group games in the following season .

Gerber is the only SCB player who won the Swiss championship six times with the hat . On January 17, 2020, he played his 933th game for SC Bern and broke David Jobin's previous record (932 games).

As a hallmark of the Emmentaler, its consistency, which was achieved early on, was highlighted. Gerber is considered a defensive defender with an extremely disciplined style of play. The combative clearer, who is playfully limited, lacks the necessary skills to have a decisive effect on the offensive. The fairness of the actor who reliably fulfills his defensive tasks was positively highlighted.

International

For Switzerland , Gerber took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2001 and 2002 . He was also part of the Swiss squad at the 2002 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2011 World Championships .
