history

The Plainberg, which has belonged to Bergheim since ancient times ( Radeck rule ), was incorporated into the city of Salzburg in 1939 after the annexation of Austria , when large communities were formed all over Austria. Itzling and Gnigl were connected as early as 1935, with the Alterbach forming the border between Itzling and Bergheim. The Bergheim local area was thus divided and the two cadastral communities Bergheim I (for Bergheim) and II (for Salzburg) were established.

After the Second World War , the two communities exchanged the majority of the Plainberg - mainly along the border of the western motorway - for the slaughterhouse area, because it was economically more important for the city. Only the templates remained with the city and were assigned partly to the Itzling district and partly to the new Kasern district. Later, the strip along the Salzach and north of the autobahn was defined as a separate district of Itzling Nord.
