Ernst von Bergmann badge

The Ernst von Bergmann plaque was donated by the German Medical Association in 1962 and has since been awarded at irregular intervals to domestic and foreign personalities for services to advanced medical training .

The award is named after Ernst von Bergmann , a German surgeon and scientist whose merit was the introduction of asepsis in operations and the treatment of wounds .

On the front, the plaque (or more appropriately: medal ) shows a relief image of the name giver and the words For merits in medical training; the back bears the emblem of the German Medical Association and the words Bundesärztekammer · Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Deutschen Ärztekammer.
