history

In the time of the Ottoman rule (1570 / 71-1878), censuses were carried out for the purpose of tax collection, such as in 1831. 16 Turkish households were counted in Beyarmudu. In 1891 the British colonial authorities had 96 inhabitants, 91 of whom were Turkish and five were Greeks. In 1901 there were 133 inhabitants, 120 of whom were Turks and 13 Greeks. Thereafter, the number of Turks increased while the number of Cypriot Greeks decreased. In 1931 only 299 Turks were counted, in 1946 452, in 1960 there were 826. In the 1960 census there were 191 Cypriot Turks, in 1978 there were 165.

Beyarmudu, which had been inhabited exclusively by Cypriot Turks since 1921 , took in refugees from Salina / Tuzla, Lefkara and Anafotida / Akkor between 1964 and 1974, during the time of the Turkish administration of Cyprus , and therefore as part of the Turkish enclave of Larnaka . In 1971 153 of these were still living in the village, which at that time had perhaps 1,000 inhabitants.

The population has been increasing since 1974. In 2006 there were 3,403 residents, whereas in 2011 it was 4,125.
