Bloomingdale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hillsborough County in the US state of Florida with 22,711 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Bloomingdale is on the Alafia River . The place is about 25 km southeast of Tampa and about 12 km from Tampa Bay .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 22,711 inhabitants were distributed over 8,419 households. The population density was 1,118.8 inh / km². 84.2% of the population identified themselves as whites, 8.4% as African-Americans , 0.4% as Indians and 2.5% as Asian Americans . 1.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.9% to several ethnic groups. 11.9% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 20.6% of all households lived in 40.8% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 80.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.86 people and the average family size was 3.17 people.

29.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 20.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 34.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.

The median annual income was $ 82,382, with 5.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.08% of the population, 6.46% spoke Spanish and 1.48% had another mother tongue.

For medical treatment that requires an outpatient or inpatient stay, residents must visit one of the surrounding clinics: Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon , about 4 miles away, St. Josephs Hospital in Tampa , about 12 miles away, and South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City , approximately 20 km away.
