Boca is an Italian red wine from the Novara province in the Piedmont region . The wine has had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since July 18, 1969 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The wine must be grown and vinified in the municipalities of Boca , Maggiora , Cavallirio , Sesia and Grignasco . The vineyards are among the highest for Nebbiolo (400-520 m above sea level). The special porphyry soils give the wine a mineral length.

Production regulations

Boca is made from 70–90% of the grape variety Nebbiolo , which is also called Spanna here . The Vespolina and Uva Rara grape varieties (individually or together) may be mixed in at 10–30%. The maximum permitted hectare yield is 63 hl / ha. The wine must mature for at least 34 months, of which 18 months in wooden barrels. For the designation "Boca Riserva" the wine has to mature for at least 46 months, of which 24 months in wooden barrels.
