Brand is a municipality in Austria in Vorarlberg in the Bludenz district with 729 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
Brand is located in the Brandnertal , which belongs to the Austrian Rätikon , at an altitude of 1,037 meters on the Alvier . 28.7 percent of the area is forested, 20.6 percent of the area is alpine. There are no other cadastral communities on fire.
history
In the 14th century, twelve Walser families settled in the high valley that had previously been used by Nenzing for alpine farming. The place was mentioned for the first time in 1347. Initially, Brand was part of the Bürs community and had to pay rent once a year. It was not until 1727 that there was a separate parish in Brand, in which around 200 people lived at that time.
The Habsburgs ruled the places in Vorarlberg alternately from Tyrol and from Freiburg im Breisgau in Upper Austria . From 1805 to 1814 the place belonged to Bavaria , then again to Austria.
Since the middle of the 19th century there was increasing tourism in the place. From 1951 to various were cable cars and ski lifts built - most recently in 2010 the Palüdbahn as a replacement for the old chairlift in the form of a gondola .
A few years ago, with the construction of the Panoramabahn to the Burtschasattel, the ski area of the village was merged with the ski area of the neighboring municipality of Bürserberg , and as a result was significantly upgraded. The cabins of this lift float spectacularly up to 210 m above the valley floor of the Mühlitobel.
Population development
At the end of 2002 the proportion of foreigners was 25.8 percent.
From 1981 to 1991 the birth balance (positive) and the migration balance (negative) were almost in balance. By 2001 both balances were positive, which led to a strong increase in the population. By 2011, emigration increased sharply and the birth balance was almost zero.
politics
The municipal council consists of 12 members, 7 of whom came from the Brand Free Voters List, 3 from the “Simply Brandner” list and 2 from the “Mitanand für Brand” list after the 2015 municipal council and mayoral election . Mayor is Michael Domig from the Free Voters List Brand. He was confirmed in the direct election in 2015 with 83.37 percent of the vote as the only candidate standing for election in office.
