The Caritas Association for the Diocese of Eichstätt is the umbrella organization of the organized Caritas ( Latin for charity , high esteem ) and the charity of the Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Eichstätt . There are currently 37 own facilities and 16 social stations.
The association is a corporate member of the German Caritas Association , Landesverband Bayern e. V. In 2017 he looked after 41,750 people.
history
On September 3, 1918, the association was founded as the first of its kind by Bishop Leo von Mergel . Cathedral Chapter Karl Vogt was appointed 1st Chairman . In 1919, cathedral vicar Johann Waldmüller was appointed Caritas director. In 1921 there were already fifty outpatient nursing stations in the association. At that time it had 34 corporate and 93 personal members and joined the German Caritas Association with the other Bavarian diocesan associations. In 1922 there were 53 Caritas committees, twenty-four children's institutions, nine orphanages and four institutions for the disabled. In 1924 there were 90 Caritas committees. In 1925 there were 29 feedings for the poor at monasteries and other institutions.
From 1934 the Caritas collections were stopped by the Third Reich and attempts were made to replace Caritas with the National Socialist People's Welfare . The kindergartens and day care centers were closed.
In 1945 30 kindergartens were founded. In 1948 the number of 188 Caritas committees was reached. The station mission in Ingolstadt was also opened. In 1950 a maternal convalescent home was opened in Denkendorf. In 1952 the Association of Social Services for Catholic Women was founded.
In 1962 the first district offices were founded in Schwabach, Neumarkt and Ingolstadt. In 1963, the Malteser Aid Service was founded as the second professional association.
This was followed by the inauguration of the nursing homes in Ingolstadt (1965), Greding St. Magdalena (1968), Eichstätt St. Elisabeth (1970), Weißenburg St. Walburg (1971), Berching St. Franziskus (1972), Nuremberg - Langwasser St. Josef (1974), Dietfurt brother Balthasar Werner (1974), Neumarkt St. Johannes (1983) and Nürnberg- Altenfurt Caritas Pirckheimer (1987).
In 1989 the Kreuzbund founded a diocesan association in the diocese. In 1990 the Heilsbronn old people's home was taken over by Abenberg Abbey , in 1991 the old people's home in Denkendorf was taken over by the local church foundation, in 1992 St. Anna in Deining by the local St. Josefs Association, and in 1995 St. Josef in Ingolstadt- Gerolfing by the local church foundation. In 1997, the St. Josef retirement home built by the city of Freystadt and operated by Caritas was opened as a replacement for the Caritas retirement home in Möning . The Caritas Foundation has existed since 2007.
structure
The association, which is under the supervision of the Bishop of Eichstätt , is divided into ten Caritas associations and four Caritas secretariats. Affiliated as professional associations are the Catholic youth welfare , the social service of Catholic women , the Maltese relief service , the Kreuzbund and the IN VIA Association of Catholic Girls' Social Work . Under the umbrella of the Diocesan Caritas Association there are currently 925 facilities with around 48,000 places. Currently, over 16,000 full-time employees, almost 9,000 of them part-time, are employed by Caritas Eichstätt.
Every year around 260,000 people in the diocese are looked after by Caritas offices.

Professional associations
The Kreuzbund , the Malteser Hilfsdienst and the Social Service of Catholic Women Ingolstadt are the three professional associations affiliated to the Caritas Association.
Own facilities
The Caritas Association maintains seven Caritas district offices with branch offices (tasks include: general social and life counseling, recreational measures, care for migrants and asylum seekers, in some cases counseling for mental health, addiction counseling, debt counseling, clothing store), five educational counseling centers, three of which are ecumenical , twenty retirement homes, the outpatient care service in Abenberg, the Caritas-Zentrum St. Vinzenz (help for people with disabilities), the Caritas-Kinderdorf Marienstein (curative educational facility for children and young people with behavioral and performance deficits), the Caritas residential homes and workshops (including second hand goods market, large kitchen and restaurant as well as meals on wheels) as well as the headquarters in Eichstätt. He maintains a total of 37 facilities.

A retirement home, seven advice centers for marriage, family and life issues, five advice centers for pregnancy, four homes for people with disabilities, two children's homes, sixteen Caritas welfare stations / nursing wards, four training centers for social professions and housekeeping, two addiction support facilities, seven open services Work for the disabled and around 190 kindergartens and after-school care centers are run by other Catholic organizations such as church foundations in the Eichstätt diocese .

There are social stations in Bechhofen, Eichstätt, Feucht, Gaimersheim, Greding, Gunzenhausen, Hilpoltstein, Ingolstadt, Monheim, Neukirchen, Neumarkt, Nürnberg-Süd, Pleinfeld, Spalt, Stein and Wemding. She is also looked after at the social station in Abenberg.

There are 230 Caritas representatives in the parish councils of the diocese and around 1900 Caritas collectors collect for Caritas every year.

Caritas Council
The Caritas Council consists of 7 voting members.
