Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes ( Occitan : Caudièrs de Fenolhet ) is a southern French municipality with 618 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitanie region .

geography

Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes is located in a valley of the Fenouillèdes , about 54 kilometers (driving distance) in a north-westerly direction from Perpignan . Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet , the capital of the canton, is a good eleven kilometers to the southwest. It is about seven kilometers to the west to the imposing castle ruins of Puilaurens .

history

The first written mention of the place comes from the year 852. In the Middle Ages the place was ruled by a castle ( Castel-Fizel ), which also functioned as the seat of an administrative and judicial district viguerie .

Attractions

  • The late Gothic pilgrimage church of Notre-Dame-de-Laval is located in impressive surroundings on a hill above the village. It was (in the 15th century on the site of an older hermitage hermitage ) built. On the way from the village to the church there is a chapel with a figure of the Holy Family and an archway with two monolithic columns and reused Romanesque capitals; above it is a 15th-century Virgin and Child.
