Ria-Sirach (in Catalan Rià i Cirac ) is a French commune with 1,325 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitania region . In addition to the official language French, Catalan is also spoken.
geography
The municipality of Ria-Sirach is located in the valley of Lage Conflent on the river Têt , shortly after Prades on the national road 116 ( Perpignan - Bourg-Madame ) on the way to Andorra .
history
The municipality of Ria-Sirach was created in 1822 from the already existing municipalities of Ria and Sirach. However, the municipality of Sirach was dependent on Ria since the high Middle Ages .
In 1973 Ria-Sirach merged with Urbanya Municipality to create Ria-Sirach-Urbanya Municipality. The two parishes were restored in 1983, with Ria taking the name Ria-Sirach.
Ria
Ria was mentioned as early as the 9th century. From 1134 Ria was under feudal rule of the Abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa until the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century.
Sirach
Sirach was also owned by the Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa Abbey until the Revolution.
