history

Foundation phase

Close Your Eyes was founded in 2005 by Shayne Reymond ( vocals ), Ben Clinard ( electric bass ), Brett Callaway ( lead guitar , backing vocals ) and Chris Coltman ( drums ) in Abilene , Texas . The musicians were at the time students at the private Baptist Hardin-Simmons University .

The band's first years mainly consisted of finding a long-term line-up. Clinard left the band after a year. He was replaced by Sonny Vega ( electric bass , backing vocals ). In addition, Andrew Rodriguez ( rhythm guitar ) joined the band as a fifth musician. Coltman left the group in 2007 and was replaced by David Fidler on drums.

First publications

In 2006 the group released a three piece demo. A first EP was released in 2008 and was named after the band. In 2009 the band was signed by Victory Records . The year 2010 began for the band with a short concert tour with Miss May I , Abandon All Ships and Us, From Outside , which led through several states of the USA and also included a concert in Canada . The label debut, called We Will Overcome , was released worldwide on February 26, 2010. The album received mostly positive reviews and sold over 12,000 copies within the first year, according to Nielsen SoundScan . In the same year drummer David Fidler left the band after three years. Tim Friesen was hired as the new drummer. In addition, the group started work on the second album, which was to see the light of day in 2011.

Between November 2, 2010 and November 28, 2010, the group was the support act for A Day to Remember on their USA concert tour together with The Word Alive and Underoath . In October, the band toured with As Blood Runs Black , For the Fallen Dreams and Atilla as opening act for Stick to Your Guns on their The Faith in the Untaimed Tour . In December the group played with Oh, Sleeper , Lower Than Atlantis and Stray from the Path for Norma Jean on their USA tour.

In April 2011 Close Your Eyes toured with Terror , Trapped Under Ice , Your Demise and again with Stick to Your Guns. This concert tour again led through the United States. On October 24th, 2011, the album entitled Empty Hands and Heavy Hearts was released worldwide. The producer was Cameron Webb, who has worked with Silverstein and Alkaline Trio . It debuted at number 137 on the official US charts . In 2011 the group played on the Scream the Prayer Tour , including with I, the Breather , Texas in July , The Great Commission and The Chariot , as well as at the Cornerstone Festival .

Andrew Rodriguez left the band briefly in 2011, but returned as an active musician in 2012. With lead singer Shane Raymond, another founding member left the band in March 2012, which is why the group had to cancel a concert tour with Comeback Kid . He was briefly replaced by Mikey Sawyer. Sawyer was only an interim solution. Sam Ryder Robinson has been the band's singer since mid-2012. On June 2, 2012 Close Your Eyes played a concert with Less Than Jake , A Wilhelm Scream and We Came as Romans in the Colombian capital Bogotá . The group also played with Protest the Hero in Argentina , Chile and Brazil .
