Conair is one of the world's largest manufacturers of small household appliances , textile care and wellness appliances , based in East Windsor , New Jersey .

history

Conair was founded in 1959 by self-made billionaire Leandro P. Rizzuto and his parents with US $ 100 as Continental Hair Products in a garage in Queens , New York . He is the sole owner of Conair to this day. The first product was a hair curler handcrafted by the Rizzuto family in their Brooklyn home. The company was renamed Conair in 1976. The company had been listed on the stock exchange since 1972 until it withdrew from the stock exchange in 1985 as part of a debt-financed takeover . In 1995, Conair was the first to retail hairbrushes in bulk. In 2002 Conair signed a license agreement with Weight Watchers , which allowed the company to sell scales under the Weight Watchers brand .
