The EBSA U19 European Snooker Championship 2000 was a snooker tournament hosted by the European Billiards and Snooker Association . The fourth edition of the Junior European Championship took place in April 2000 in the Hungarian capital Budapest .
15-year-old Roger Baksa became the first Englishman to win the European Junior Championship. He defeated Rolf de Jong from the Netherlands 6-3 in the final.
Final round
16 players from 8 countries qualified for the round of 16 of the tournament. In the knockout process, they determined the junior European champion.
At the age of 15, Roger Baksa was as old as the youngest winner Ian Preece in 1998 . Rolf de Jong, on the other hand, had already made it to the round of 16 at the tournament debut in 1997 and at the age of 19 this time one of the oldest participants. The young Englishman prevailed 6: 3. Then he reached the second round in the men 's category, but then did not make a big impression in snooker. De Jong also lost the final of the Junior World Championship that same year . Also in his national championship he had to settle for second place twice before he achieved his biggest victory in 2006 with the Dutch championship title. He was not aiming for a professional career.
