Schwalbach is a municipality in the Saarlouis district of Saarland .

geography

The community of Schwalbach is located around 15 km northwest of Saarbrücken .

The community consists of three districts:

history

Schwalbach was first mentioned in the Mettlach goods roll as Swalpach . In 1840 the Schwalbach paper factory employed 16 male and 33 female workers, who produced 15,000 reams of writing paper of 12 pounds each with 3 handmade paper.

On October 12, 1982 the community name was officially changed from Schwalbach / Saar to Schwalbach .

Since 1991 there has been a partnership with the French municipality of Vern-sur-Seiche in the Ille-et-Vilaine department.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1974, the previously independent communities of Bous / Saar , Elm / Saar, Ensdorf and Hülzweiler became a new large community, which was named after the largest district (Schwalbach).

Outsourcing

On January 1, 1982, Bous / Saar and Ensdorf became independent again.

In a run-off election on October 11, 2009, Hans-Joachim Neumeyer (CDU) was elected mayor of Schwalbach. Most recently, he ran again in 2019 with no opposing candidates and was confirmed in office for another five years with 76% of the votes.

The coat of arms was awarded to the municipality in 1974/75 by the Minister of the Interior of Saarland . It shows symbols that stand for the history of the individual districts. The basic colors show the affiliation to Nassau-Saarbrücken (blue and silver) and to the Duchy of Lorraine (gold and red).

The basic structure of the coat of arms (basic colors, division and wavy band) goes back to the coat of arms of the largest district (Schwalbach).

The oak branch was taken from the Hülzweiler local coat of arms and reminds (like the place name) of the emergence of a forest clearing settlement .

Mallets and irons are reminiscent of the mining tradition in Schwalbach and come from the coat of arms of the Elm district.

The mill wheel also comes from the Elm coat of arms, which refers to the mills that used to determine working life in Elm.

The cross refers to the influence of the Wadgassen and Fraulautern abbeys .

Due to the above explanations, it is a so-called Redendes Wappen .

Culture and sights

The Volksbühne Hülzweiler e. V. plays, in addition to regular hall performances, the Hülzweiler open-air theater , one of the largest open-air theaters in southwest Germany. The Schwalbach Blacksmith and Locksmith's Museum has been housed in the listed former compressor house since 1999 .

Since around the beginning of the 1970s there was a zoo in Griesborn , which existed until around 1993 and in which monkeys and lions were also shown. Thereto nor the name of the stop reminding Griesborn zoo of KVS -line 426th

  • SSG Schwarzenholz-Griesborn provides the best Saarland men's team in the Regionalliga Südwest.
