ULEB Euroleague 2008/09

The season 2008/09 was the seventh season of the ULEB discharged Euro Cup . It was the first time the competition was held under this name.

Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius from Lithuania won the title for the second time .

48 teams from 22 nations took part. The season began on November 28, 2008 and ended with the final on April 5, 2009. First a qualification was held. In the first qualifying round, 16 teams faced each other in a return leg. The winner from the addition of the two games qualified for the second qualifying round. The loser got the right to play in the EuroChallenge . In the second qualifying round, 8 teams seeded for this round met 8 winners of qualifying round 1. The winner from the addition of the two games qualified for the group stage. The loser got the right to play in the EuroChallenge. 32 teams took part in the first group stage. In addition to the 24 directly qualified teams, there were eight teams from the second qualifying round. The 32 teams were divided into eight groups of four teams each. A double round was played everyone against everyone. The two best in each group advanced to the second group stage. The round of 16 was played for the first time in the history of the Eurocup. As in the first group stage, the 16 teams were divided into four groups of four. A double round was played everyone against everyone. The two best in each group made it to the quarter-finals. The winner of the tournament was determined in a Final 8 tournament.
