The Munich metropolitan region is one of currently eleven metropolitan regions in Germany. The Munich metropolitan region encompasses large parts of the southern Bavarian area around the Munich planning region with its center Munich .

The Munich metropolitan region is the southernmost metropolitan region in Germany and one of three metropolitan regions that are wholly or partly in Bavaria. The spatial coverage is not conclusively determined, but largely coincides with the administrative district of Upper Bavaria and parts of the administrative districts of Lower Bavaria and Swabia .

The Munich metropolitan region comprises the regional authorities of the state capital Munich and the independent cities of Augsburg , Ingolstadt , Kaufbeuren , Landshut and Rosenheim as well as the districts of Aichach-Friedberg , Altötting , Augsburg , Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen , Dachau , Dillingen an der Donau , Dingolfing-Landau , Danube -Ries , Ebersberg , Eichstätt , Freising , Fürstenfeldbruck , Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Kelheim , Landsberg am Lech , Landshut , Miesbach , Mühldorf am Inn , Munich , Ostallgäu , Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm , Rosenheim , Schrobenhausen , Starnberg , Traunstein and Weilheim-Schongau .

The districts of Erding and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen are in the region, but are not members of the association.

The association "European Metropolitan Region Munich"

The Munich Metropolitan Region is organized in the European Metropolitan Region Munich Association (EMM eV). 25 rural districts in southern Bavaria, the six independent cities of Augsburg, Ingolstadt, Kaufbeuren, Landshut, Munich and Rosenheim, around 40 municipalities belonging to the district, important local and international business companies, renowned educational and research institutions and associations are members of the EMM eV The office is based in Munich .

The EMM eV serves as an open network for actors from politics, economy, science and society and especially as a platform for interdisciplinary and inter-institutional projects. All projects of the association are characterized by the sustainable promotion of economic power in harmony with nature and the environment in order to further increase the quality of life in the metropolitan region. In 2016, the association made mobility one of its focal points and is working intensively on an integrated mobility concept and an EMM roof tariff. Companies and institutions as well as the population of the entire Munich metropolitan region benefit from the networking in the association, which follows the motto “Do more with one another”.

The goals of the European Metropolitan Region Association in Munich:

organization structure

The organization of the association and its committees follows the principle of equal participation of local authorities on the one hand and economy and society on the other. The general assembly currently elects a total of 32 representatives to a steering group, separated by banks, from their respective sub-banks. This in turn elects the 16-member board from among its members. The board of directors appoints a managing director to manage the day-to-day business. The focus of the association is formed by the working groups that develop and implement projects.

Metropolitan Conference

The EMM eV organizes a metropolitan conference once a year, always at a different location in the region. Every year, the focus is on one topic that is relevant to the future for the entire region. In 2017, the Fürstenfeldbruck district hosted the conference, which dealt with the topic of digitization and the associated opportunities and challenges, especially for companies and regions.
