European Cup Winners' Cup 1973/74

The 1974/75 European Cup Winners 'Cup was the 15th draw of the European Cup Winners' Cup. 32 club teams from 32 countries took part in it, including 22 national cup winners and 10 defeated cup finalists (Dundee United, Benfica Lisbon, AS Monaco, FC Avenir Beggen, Red Star Belgrade, Enosis Neon Paralimni FC, Slavia Prague, Gwardia Warsaw, Dynamo Kiev and Bursaspor). Last year's winner, 1. FC Magdeburg, qualified as GDR champion for the 1974/75 European Cup and was therefore unable to defend his title. As in the previous year, Albania did not report any team. DFB Cup winners Eintracht Frankfurt from Germany, FDGB Cup winners FC Carl Zeiss Jena from GDR , ÖFB Cup winners FK Austria Wien from Austria and FC Sion from Switzerland took part .

In the first pure final of two teams from the Eastern Bloc , Dynamo Kiev was able to win a European Cup for the Soviet Union for the first time.

The top scorer was the Dutchman Willy van der Kuylen from PSV Eindhoven with a total of eight goals.

mode

As usual, the participants played the winner in pure cup mode with home and return matches. If there was a tie after both games, the number of goals scored away decided ( away goal rule ). If their number was also the same, extra time took place in the second leg, in which the away goals rule also applied. If there was still a tie at the end of extra time, a penalty shoot- out was carried out. The final was decided in a game on a neutral court. In the event of a tie after extra time, the winner would also have been determined in a penalty shoot-out.
