The league was increased to 12 clubs before the 2007/08 season. The champions of the first division , the MHK SkiPark Kežmarok , and the Slovak U20 national team were newly accepted . The latter was supposed to prepare for the U20 World Cup in 2008 as part of the Extraliga - under the name HK VSR SR 20 - and play a total of 34 games within the league. All other teams play a total of 54 games, i. H. 27 home and away games each. First a double round was played between all teams (44 games per participant) and then a half single round was played among the remaining club teams.
For a win after extra time or penalty shootout, only two instead of three points were awarded to the winner, the loser receives no point in either case.
The champions of the 2007/08 season were HC Slovan Bratislava, who beat HC Košice 4: 3 and won their seventh title in the club's history. Outstanding players in Slovan's ranks were Martin Kuľha , goalkeeper Sasu Hovi and Richard Kapuš .
