The Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium (FEG) is a public high school in the city of Bonn with a bilingual German-French course and bilingual German-English courses. The school building is located in the Bonn district of Gronau and stands as a monument under monument protection .

history

The Friedrich-Ebert -Gymnasium was founded on April 1, 1954 as a modern language boys grammar school and emerged from the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt grammar school through a split . Based on this, it was initially called EMA II.

With the establishment of the bilingual German-French branch in 1970, the school opened partially to girls, then completely in 1976.

In 1993 it was merged with the Dottendorfer Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Gymnasium.

profile

The Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium has around 1200 students and 100 teachers. The current headmaster is Frank Langner. It currently has partner schools in England , Wales and Scotland , France , Spain and Israel .

According to its own information, it is the only grammar school in Germany where three additional qualifications can be acquired in addition to the Abitur: the French Baccalauréat (since 1990), the English-oriented International Baccalaureate (since 1997) and the CertiLingua (since 2009), an award for excellent multilingual skills. In 1999 the FEG was awarded the European Language Seal. Every student gets to know at least three languages in their school career. English and French are compulsory subjects from the start. From the eighth grade, there is a choice between Latin and Spanish.

The FEG also has an extensive range of natural sciences and has been a MINT- friendly school since 2011 .

There is also a cultural focus, which is reflected, among other things, in choir, orchestra and theater projects, regular cultural events and advanced art and literature courses in the upper level.

As a rule, every student travels several times in their school career to the school camp on the Aremberg , which has existed since 1932 and is run together with the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium.

In 1956, just a few years after the FEG was founded, the school rowing club (SRC) was founded at the grammar school. The aim of the SRC is, in addition to physical training, also or particularly to create space for the students to develop freely and to encourage acquaintances among the students. Since its inception, the SRC has managed itself independently through an annually elected student board, which is supported by a member of the college, the protector. In its history the SRC achieved many regatta successes and with Valerie Viehoff also produced an Olympic athlete.

The school also participates in the European Parliament model .

cooperation

A cooperation agreement has been in place with its immediate neighbor, the corporate headquarters of Deutsche Telekom , since June 2005, which, in addition to material resources, primarily stipulates longer company internships for schoolchildren and a dialogue between the schoolchildren and the managers.

In February 2010, a contract was signed with Deutsche Post DHL , which promises the FEG joint projects, especially in the field of career orientation. There is also a cooperation with the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences .
