Potsdam district class ↓

The district league Potsdam 1979/80 was the 28th edition of the district league Potsdam carried out by the district technical committee (BFA) football Potsdam . It was the top division in the Potsdam district and the third highest in the league system in the DFV area .

In the finals of the district championship, a penalty shoot-out had to be used as a decision for the first time . Here, the previous year's relegated from the GDR league and winner of the southern relay Motor South Brandenburg prevailed over the winner of the northern relay electronic Neuruppin . The Brandenburgers returned to the overarching GDR league after a year of absence.

With the relegation of Motor Babelsberg and Chemie Premnitz from the GDR league, their second representatives were downgraded to the district class. Further relegations to one of the subordinate district class groups were from the north, BSG Aufbau Zehdenick and last year’s climber, Traktor Häsen, and from the south, after one year of membership, Empor Beelitz and the BSG Lokomotive Kirchmöser . In return, all five season winners of the district class rose to BSG Empor Wusterhausen (season A) , the district league newcomers Lokomotive Elstal (season C) and Dynamo Potsdam (season D) as well as the previous year's relegated representatives of Stahl Hennigsdorf (season B) and Wissenschaft Großbeeren ( Season E) in the district league.
