The Football Association League Hamburg 1978/79 was the 34th season of the top amateur class of the Hamburg Football Association . The Association League Hamburg was a league level below the Oberliga Nord . It was held in a relay.

Compared to the previous season , VfL Pinneberg came back to the association league after one season from the Oberliga Nord, as well as the two promoted Hummelsbütteler SV (for the first time in the regional league) and FC St. Pauli Amateure ( promotion after two years).

The winner was VfL Stade . Together with the runner-up ASV Bergedorf 85 he took part in the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord . Both could not prevail there and missed the ascent.

At the end of the season, the teams had to relegate to the last three places. The amateur team of FC St. Pauli had to relegate after one season, 1. SC Norderstedt after two seasons and SV Curslack-Neuengamme after six seasons.
