The French Guiana national soccer team is the national team of the French overseas department . It is organized by the Ligue de football de la Guyane , a subdivision of the French Football Association.

French Guiana is not a member of the world football association FIFA and therefore does not take part in the qualifying matches for the football world championships .

history

As a member of the continental association CONCACAF , the football team takes part in the qualifying games for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and was able to qualify for the finals for the first time in 2017 . The national team also took part in the Coupe de l'Outre-Mer , the former competition for national teams from France's overseas territories . French Guiana was able to place fourth in 2008 . The team also reached the preliminary round at the Caribbean Championship three times (most recently in 2014 ).

The most famous footballer in the country is probably the French international Florent Malouda , who played for Chelsea London in England until 2013 and was appointed to the French Guiana squad for the finals of the Gold Cup in 2017. He was used in the second round game, which is why the game was rated as a 3-0 defeat. Even Jean-Claude Darcheville has its roots in French Guiana.
