Günter Kaden (* 1941 in Leipzig ) is a contemporary German sculptor .

biography

Günter Kaden was born in Leipzig in 1941. After finishing school, he completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason and then worked for a master sculptor. Kaden passed his Abitur examination in 1967 and in the same year began studying at the University of Industrial Design in Halle, Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale) with Professors Gerhard Lichtenfeld and Willi Sitte .

With his diploma as a sculptor in 1972 he left the university and took over the artistic direction of the restoration work on the Gothic church of St. Moritz zu Halle for the next three years . From 1973 he worked for project groups for architecture-related art. After moving to Wendischhagen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1979 , he worked as a freelancer and in 1990 became a member of the Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania Artists' Association. His partner, the graphic artist Sabine Naumann is also a versatile artist.

After the fall of the Wall , like many other artists from the former GDR , he had to deal with his files at the Stasi and find out how narrowly he escaped arrest. At that time Kaden's study trips took him to Poland , Czechoslovakia , Hungary , Romania , Bulgaria and the former Soviet Union . With the end of the GDR, new opportunities opened up and so Holland , Italy , the USA , Canada , England , Switzerland , Austria and Israel were added.

Work area

Günter Kaden says of himself: “I love organic shapes. It is the forms of the landscape in which I live, the terminal moraines of Mecklenburg Switzerland. " Therefore, he appreciates working with materials such as stone, bronze , terracotta , but also polyester to design his work. His works are varied, in addition to the longstanding architecture-related work, there are sculptures , play objects for children, small sculptures, medals , miniatures and portraits . Some of his work was cast in the Lauchhammer art and bell foundry , a traditional company that has had experience in casting sculptures since 1725.
