After the club was founded on November 20, 1955, the sports club Rudar Velenje ("Bergmann") planned to build a 30 meter hill on a hill with the support of Stanko Bloudek . The inauguration of the 30-meter hill took place on December 28, 1955 with 25 ski jumpers from Šoštanj and Velenje. There was great interest in ski jumping and that is why a 45-meter hill was built next year next to the 30-meter hill. The association organized the national championship for pioneers in 1961. The jumping took place in 1962 on Republic Day. The members of the club decided in 1962 to build three new hills, 12, 20 and 30 meters, for training and competitions.
In 1983 a 10-meter hill, in Pesje an 18-meter and a 33-meter hill, was built in Velenje and all hills were covered with plastic mattings. A 55-meter hill with plastic mats was built from the 45-meter hill. The inauguration took place on July 3, 1986 with an official competition. The chairman of the Planica committee, Niko Belopavlovič, planned to build a 75 meter plastic covered hill. In 1987 the first "Mining Lamp Competition" (Tekma za rudarsko svetilko) was held , which has been held annually on the "Miners' Holiday" since then. The first event of the new 75 meter plastic covered hill was on July 10th, 1988. In 1994 the first national summer championships took place, in 1997 the Continental Cup , “competition for the mining lamp” and the Gorenje Cup. In 2000 the 75 meter hill became an 85 meter hill. In 2006 the association celebrated its 50th anniversary. The Continental Cup, national and international competitions take place regularly on the hill.
