The women's handball league in the GDR 1986/87 was the top division in indoor handball in the GDR this season . With her, the 37th GDR champion was determined in this sport.

Season course

The handball league began on October 11, 1986 and ended with the last game on May 2, 1987. As usual, ten teams took part, including the five long-established sports clubs. Due to the handball world championships in December in the Netherlands , the sports clubs did not join the championship events until January. With the successful title defense, the ASK forward Frankfurt / O. the title hat trick perfect. The SC Leipzig and the TSC Berlin followed . For the final placement of the TSC, who was equal on points with SC Empor Rostock , the games decided against each other or against the next-placed. The two newcomers BSG Einheit / Sirokko Neubrandenburg and BSG Halloren Halle were able to keep the class with places seven and eight. After five and six years respectively, BSG Umformtechnik Erfurt and TSG Wismar had to leave the league.
