Handball Regional League West 1969/70
The 1969/1970 season of the men's indoor handball regional league was the first in its history. The regional league was introduced at the same time as the regional leagues of the other three regional associations as the second highest division below the Bundesliga . A total of 14 teams played in two seasons with seven teams each. The first two of each season played in the semifinals and final for the title of West German champion 1970. The West German champion determined in this way then played against the champions of the Regionalliga Nord for promotion to the Bundesliga season north. Four teams from the regional associations of Westphalia, Lower Rhine and Middle Rhine qualified for the composition of the new league, and two from the Rhineland association. The place of the West German champion and Bundesliga promoter TV Oppum 1894 took the relegated from the Bundesliga BSV Solingen 1898.
After the season, two teams, TC Sterkrade (Niederrhein) and TuS Niederpleis (Middle Rhine), had to relegate to the upper leagues, four teams were promoted so that the relays were increased to eight teams each for the following season.
