Handball Regional League West 1971/72
The 1971/1972 season of the men's regional handball league was the third in its history. A total of 16 teams in a north and a south relay played for the West German championship. The first two of each season played for the title of West German champion in 1972.
Two teams had to be relegated to the upper leagues: Schalksmühler TV (Westphalia) and VfL Gummersbach II (Middle Rhine).

Due to the expansion of the seasons, a relegation of the seventh of the regional league and the four runners-up in the upper leagues by four regional league places was played out. TV Oppum and Olympia Cologne held the class, OSC Rheinhausen and Idarer TV rose, Teutonia Riemke (Westphalia) and TV Kuchenheim (Middle Rhine) did not make it up.
