Handball Regional League West 1980/81

The season 1980/1981 of the Handball -Regionalliga West of the men was the 11th in their history. A total of 28 teams in a north and a south relay played for the West German championship. The respective winners of their season played for the title of West German champions in 1981 after 26 match days. This was achieved by OSC Dortmund in the final against TB Wülfrath .

This season also served to qualify for the newly created 2nd Bundesliga .

TV 05 Mülheim merged with TV Kärlich to form HSG Mülheim-Kärlich .

Three teams had to be relegated to the upper leagues: TS St. Tönis (Lower Rhine), TuS Thomasberg (Middle Rhine) and TV Güls (Rhineland-Palatinate).
