Friedrich Hermann von Roeder (born January 29, 1797 in Grottkau , Principality of Neisse , † May 10, 1857 in Breslau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Hermann von Roeder belonged to a family who immigrated from Hesse to Silesia , whose aristocratic status was not objected to in Prussia in 1761 and who particularly distinguished themselves in the soldier profession. His parents were the Prussian major general Heinrich von Roeder (1742-1821) and his second wife Henriette, née Trützschler von Falkenstein (1762-1838). Eight of his brothers also entered the Prussian Army , four of whom achieved the rank of general . Another brother Gustav von Roeder (1805-1878) was the Prussian Consistorial President in Breslau. Lieutenant General Friedrich Adrian Dietrich von Roeder was his uncle.

Military career

Roeder began his career in 1812 as a rifleman in the Silesian Rifle Battalion, in 1813 he advanced to portepeef ensign and then to secondary lieutenant . He took part in the battles of Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden and Kulm during the Wars of Liberation . In the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , Roeder lost his left arm and spent a time in the Altenburg military hospital. There he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class on December 24, 1813 . Afterwards he was able to attend the sieges of Landrecies, Givet and Philippeville, but retired from active service on May 6, 1815 with a waiting allowance .

As early as June 1815, Roeder resumed service as adjutant of the 6th Brigade of the II Army Corps , but in the same year changed to the 4th Brigade of the I Army Corps under Lieutenant General von Zieten . Also in 1815 he finally became adjutant at the general command in Saxony . In 1817 Roeder was promoted to prime lieutenant and in 1821 rose to captain , at the same time was adjutant at the general command of the IV Army Corps .

In 1827 Roeder was aggregated into the 3rd and 4th Jägerabteilung and in 1828 appointed as company commander . In March 1830 he became the commander of the 3rd Jäger Department in Lübben (Spreewald) and remained in this position until April 1846. In the meantime he was promoted to major in 1834 and lieutenant colonel in 1844 .

As early as March 1846 Roeder became battalion commander in the 8th Infantry Regiment . A year later, Roeder was promoted to colonel , was initially charged with the command of the 9th Infantry Regiment and, in 1848, was appointed regimental commander. In May 1848 Roeder was deployed as the commandant of Wittenberg and in the same month the 9th Infantry Regiment was aggregated. In 1850 he became the commandant of Stralsund and on August 10, 1851 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. On March 23, 1852, he was promoted to major general and in mid-January 1853 Roeder was still in command of Breslau. He died in this position and was buried in the family crypt in Gohlau.

Roeder married Countess Marie Agnes Rosalie zu Lynar (1803–1890), daughter of the Saxon chamberlain and heir to Ogrosen , Count Ludwig zu Lynar and Ernestine von Knoch in 1829 . The marriage had five children.
