The Japan Football League 2017 was the 19th season of the Japan Football League overall and the fourth as the fourth-highest division in Japanese football . Sixteen clubs took part in it. The season began on March 5, 2017 and ended on November 12, 2017. With Honda FC's victory in both half-series, the planned finals were canceled, and the defending champion from Hamamatsu achieved his seventh championship title.
For the first time since the league reform for the 2014 season, no club was promoted to the J3 League at the end of the season , as none of the eligible clubs could achieve a place in the top four in the annual table. This had the consequence that for the first time in seven years teams had to leave the league as regular relegated teams; with Briobecca Urayasu and Tochigi Uva FC it caught two teams.
mode
All clubs met twice in a double round tournament , once at home and once away. In total, one team played 30 games. There were three points for a win; in the case of a draw, each team received one point. Return round counted separately, an additional overall table for determining winners and losers in which was J3 League 2018 or Regional 2018 formed. All three tables were created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
For promotion to the J3 League, a team had to have the license for this division and complete the season within the top four of the overall table. A maximum of two clubs rose.
In the event that there were no promoters in the J3 League, the two worst clubs in the overall table relegated to their corresponding regional league; with one or two climbers, the descent decreased accordingly.

At the end of the 2016 season , third-placed azul claro Numazu was promoted to the 2017 J3 League as the best-placed team among the promotion candidates . The reserve team of the J. League club Fagiano Okayama , Fagiano Okayama Next , stopped playing at the end of the season and was then dissolved.
The two vacant positions were filled by the best teams from the national regional league finals in 2016. Their winner FC Imabari played in the Shikoku regional league in recent years and has won four of the five possible championship titles there since 2011. The runner-up Veertien Mie last appeared in the Tōkai Regional League and qualified for the regional league finals via the Japanese Amateur Cup.
