Javine , actually Javine Dionne Hylton , (born December 27, 1981 in London ) is a British singer .

Early years

Javine gained musical experience when she played the role of Nala in the musical The Lion King in London's West End for two years . She quit to take part in the second season of the British edition of the casting show Popstars in 2002 . She made it into the last six and only failed at the last hurdle that would have made her one of the five singers of the later successful girl group Girls Aloud .

First studio recordings

In the summer of 2003, Javine released her first single, Real Things, with which she reached fourth place in the UK charts. Three more singles followed, which also reached the top 20. In the summer of 2004 their first album was released under the title Surrender . Although she worked with successful composers such as Eg White , the CD only reached number 73 in the album charts, whereupon her record label separated from her in late 2004.

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest

With the song Touch My Fire, which she had written with John Themis, Javine took part in 2005 in Making Your Mind Up, the British preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . She was able to prevail against the four other candidates, including the highly popular Katie Price . When she recited her winning title, her dress slipped so that her bare chest could be seen on TV, causing a huge outcry in the UK media. At the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kiev she had little success: With only 18 points she landed 22nd out of 24 participants, although she had good odds of 33/1 before the competition. She later said she was unable to perform optimally because of a sore throat.

After the competition

In 2006 she took part in the celebrity sports show The Games , which she also won. She began an affair with her competitor on the show Michael Harvey , who was married to Alesha Dixon at the time . In February 2008, the two had a daughter. In 2006 she also released the single Don't Let the Morning Come in collaboration with Soul Avengerz . In the same year, her license was revoked for 18 months for driving under the influence of alcohol.
