Johann "Hans" Tobias Neubauer (born December 16, 1884 in Vienna ; † September 24, 1971 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP / SPÖ ) and teacher .

Act as a teacher

Johann Neubauer was born on December 16, 1884 in Vienna and worked as a secondary school teacher. As such, he directed the Elisabethgymnasium in the fifth Viennese district of Margareten until 1934 . After the February fighting in 1934 , Neubauer was released from school and imprisoned for three months. After the time of National Socialism , he headed the rebuilt secondary school on Henriettenplatz in the 15th Viennese district of Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus , as well as the workers' secondary school located there.

Act as a politician

Since 1905 Neubauer was politically active in the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP) and represented the party from 1926 in the Vienna City Council and Landtag until its elimination in 1934. In addition, from 1932 he held the office of First President of the Landtag , where he after his predecessor Robert Danneberg was only the second president of the state parliament in the history of Vienna. After the legal situation was restored in 1945, he was a member of the body until 1949 and was re-elected First President of the State Parliament. During this time he also chaired the local council. He was also federal chairman of the workers 'abstinence union in Austria and chairman of the socialist teachers' association.

On September 24, 1971, Neubauer died at the age of 86 in his hometown of Vienna after a long period of suffering. After his death, he was cremated and buried on October 7, 1971 in the urn grove of the Simmering fire hall (department 3, ring 2, group 3, number 126). His wife Judith (1893–1985) survived him by 14 years.
