Katrín Ómarsdóttir (born June 27, 1987 in Hamburg , Germany ) is an Icelandic soccer player who has played for the Icelandic women's national soccer team since 2006 and took part in the 2009 and 2013 European championships with them . At club level, she first played in Iceland, where she became champion and cup winner with KR Reykjavík, and later in the USA, Sweden and England, where she became English champion with the Liverpool Ladies . She is currently under contract with KR Reykjavík again.

Katrín made her first league game for KR on July 3, 2001 at the age of 14 in a 9-1 win against UMF Grindavík , when she was substituted on in the 80th minute. Against Grindavík she then scored her first league goal to 11-0 in the 12-0 second leg after being substituted on six minutes earlier. In total, she played four games in the season for the runner-up. In 2002, when KR was champion for the fifth time, she remained without commitment and at the start of the 2003 season she lost the Supercup game with KR against record champions Breiðablik Kópavogur . KR was able to defend the championship title, to which she had a small share with a goal in five games. In the following season, she doubled the number of her games and tripled the number of her goals, but after eight years KR had to be content with third place among the first two teams and also lost the Supercup game against city rival Valur . 2005 went even worse: she only made six appearances, remained without scoring and KR was only fourth and then lost the cup final against Breiðablik with 1: 4.

2006 was a successful year, at least for Katrín: she was used for the first time in all league games and scored nine goals. KR was able to improve to 3rd place, but was eliminated in the cup quarter-finals against Valur. In 2007 she was missing in two league games and only scored six goals, but KR was runner-up and cup winner, where she was not used in the final. In the Supercup final against Master Valur at the start of the 2008 season she was used, but Valur was stronger again. Nevertheless, they were able to defeat Valur 4-0 in the cup final at the end of the season. However, she was only used in the semi-finals and only played ten league games that ended with the runner-up. In 2009, in her last season in Iceland, she failed with KR in the quarter-finals and ended the season in sixth place after nine league appearances.

She has been studying at the University of California, Berkeley since 2008 and played for the California Golden Bears, where she scored seven goals in 32 games over three seasons.

For the 2010 season she then went to Sweden and played for Kristianstads DFF in Damallsvenskan together with national team record goalscorer Margrét Lára Viðarsdóttir and Gudny Björk Odinsdottir , who had played there since the preseason. She scored two goals in eight games and finished the season with the Swedes in eighth place.

After only one season in Sweden, however, she went back to California and played in the Women's Premier Soccer League , the second highest division in US women's football, for the Orange County Waves , with which she was WPSL champions. In nine games she scored six goals. In January 2012 she got together with her compatriot Hólmfríður Magnúsdóttir a contract with Philadelphia Independence for the higher US league Women's Professional Soccer ; but since the WPS was discontinued for financial reasons, the contract was no longer valid. Instead, she went back to Kristianstads DFF, where she scored four goals in 21 games and finished the season in fifth place.

In 2013 she went to England to play for Liverpool Ladies FC in the FA Women's Super League . The club was only last in the previous two seasons and invested in new players. Katrín then helped decisively on the last day of the match against their immediate rivals Bristol Academy WFC that Liverpool Ladies FC became champions for the first time, as even reported in the Times . This also ended the nine-year supremacy of the Arsenal Ladies . The team was thus also qualified for the round of 32 of the UEFA Women's Champions League 2014/15 , but failed there at Linköpings FC , the third of the Damallsvenskan.

In 2014 , the title was defended and so did the international effort, because they failed again in the round of 32 of the 2015/16 UEFA Women's Champions League , this time against the Italian champions ACF Brescia . In 2015 , the team, as the penultimate, narrowly escaped relegation. After that, she was released from her contract.

In January 2016, she received a contract with the Doncaster Belles , who were promoted to the 2016 season . She played her first league game for the Belles on April 27, 2016 after recovering from an injury that made her miss her last international game on April 12 and the first game of the season, and lost 2-1 to the Birmingham City Ladies.

In early January 2017 she returned to KR Reykjavík.

National team

Katrín on April 5, 2014 during the international match against Israel

In 2002, Katrín took part with the U-17 national team of Iceland in the Nordic Cup in their home country Iceland, in which the Icelanders came third. In April 2004 she failed with the U-19 team in the qualification for the U-19 European Women's Football Championship 2004 to Germany . In June / July 2004 she was nominated again for the Nordic Cup of the U-17 teams, but this time she could only reach seventh place. In the group games they lost against Germany, among others, with 1: 7, with a certain Célia Okoyino da Mbabi scored five goals. In later years, both should meet with their senior national teams at Algarve Cups and European Championship finals , but always with the better end for the Germans. In autumn 2005 she survived the first qualifying round with the U-19 team for the U-19 European Women's Football Championship in 2006 , but failed in the second qualifying round to Denmark in spring 2006. In July 2006 she reached the game for 3rd place with the U-21 team at the Nordic Cup, but lost it 0-1 against Sweden.

In August 2006, at the age of 19, she was invited to the senior national team for the first time , but was only on the bench against the Czech Republic on the 19th.

Sweden was then the opponent in their immediately following first international match on August 26, 2006 as part of the qualification for the 2007 World Cup , in which they came on in the 64th minute and lost again 1-0. She was then nominated for the subsequent final game in the World Cup qualifiers, but not used, and for the subsequent friendly in the United States against the US ignored. In the next 25 games Katrín was always in the squad, but was substituted or substituted on 20 times and only played one game over 90 minutes. On May 28, 2008, she scored her first international goal in qualifying for the Euro 2009 against Serbia two minutes after being substituted on , making it 4-0. In the next European Championship qualifier, her only game over 90 minutes in that time, she scored her second international goal to make it 5-0 against Slovenia five minutes before the end and then scored another goal in the following game. But then she stayed 16 months without a goal.

As group runners-up in the European Championship qualification, they then had to compete in the play-offs against Ireland and reached the European Championship finals for the first time with a 1-1 and a 3-0 . She also took part in this, but was only used in two group games and replaced each time. The Icelanders lost all group games, but against runner-up European champions Norway and defending champions Germany only just 0: 1, making them the team that conceded the fewest goals against eventual European champions Germany.

In qualifying for the 2011 World Cup , they only lost the two games against the strengthened French women , who then finished fourth at the World Cup. She played over 90 minutes in the first leg for the second time, but was not nominated for the second leg, nor for the game on September 17, 2009 against Estonia , in which the Icelanders achieved the highest win in their international history with 12-0. As group runner-up in qualification, however, they missed the subsequent play-off games.

After qualifying for the World Cup, she became the woman for an hour, because she was replaced seven times in a row after about an hour, including four times at the next highlight in her career, the Algarve Cup 2011 . There the Icelanders reached the final for the first time , in which they met the USA. After an early deficit, they equalized in the 26th minute and two minutes later they even took a 2-1 lead. But they then conceded the equalizer in stoppage time in the first half and had to accept two goals in the second half, although she was no longer on the field in the fourth.

It was used 28 times in the next 37 games, but only twice over the full 90 minutes. She scored five goals in these games, including one in each of the 3-2 play-offs in qualifying for the Euro 2013 against Ukraine .

At the European Championship finals in 2013 , they were drawn into a group with defending champions Germany and Norway, just like four years earlier. The third opponent this time was the Netherlands , against whom the only victory came. Katrín was only used against the two heavyweights, but was only substituted on. After all, Margrét Lára Viðarsdóttir managed to score the 1-1 final four minutes after Katrín came on as a substitute for Norway. Against Germany, she was substituted at the beginning of the second half when the score was 0-1, but then had to see Célia Okoyino da Mbabi score two more goals. Despite the defeat against the German team, however, they were best third in the group and thus reached the quarter-finals. Here they lost against hosts Sweden 4-0, with Katrín remaining on the bench.

After her 64th game in May 2014, there was a 22-month hiatus in which she missed 15 games due to injuries. It was not until the Algarve Cup in 2016 that it was used again in the first two group matches. She experienced the third group game and the game for third place on the bench and she was not nominated for the European Championship qualifier on April 12, 2016. She played her last games so far at the Sincere Cup in October 2016.

With ten international goals she is twelfth in the list of goalscorers for the Icelanders.
