The Lebanese license plate is a white sign with black characters and has been similar to the Euro plate since 1997 . It has a similar size (520 × 110 mm) and a blue bar on the left edge. From top to bottom, the country name Lebanon ( Arabic لبنان, DMG Lubnān ) in Arabic, followed by a Lebanon cedar and the use of the vehicle (e.g. private vehicle) in Arabic . The actual combination consists of a letter for the registration area and a maximum of six digits. As an alternative to the long format, there are also signs in American format .

Between 1997 and December 2017 the combination was to be found bilingual in two lines on the signs. The license plate was read from right to left - according to the reading direction of the Arabic written language . On the lower right-hand side was the Arabic letter for the approval district, followed by a maximum of six Indo-Arabic numerals. Above it, the country name appeared in Arabic. On the upper right half of the license plate, the string was repeated in Latin letters in left-right notation. Below is the country name LIBAN in French in capital Latin letters.

The white signs are issued with different additions for private and commercial use. There are also other variants:

  • License plates for taxis are red with black lettering.
  • Export license plates are lime green with black lettering.
  • License plates for rental cars for self-drive are also lime green with black lettering.
  • License plates for dealer vehicles are yellow with black lettering.
  • License plates for diplomats were initially white with black lettering. Since 2003 these have been yellow with black letters.
  • There are also license plates for the judiciary . They are white with black letters. However, the bar on the left is red. The Lebanon cedar is depicted on the upper half of the bar and a pair of scales on the lower half. Below that is Justice in Arabic. In addition, a red oval seal is attached on the right side, on which a scale and the word Justice in French and Arabic are also depicted.
  • License plates for vehicles of the Armed Forces of Lebanon are black with white lettering and the flag of Lebanon .

Until the end of 1996, black signs with white letters were used as license plates in Lebanon. Due to the lower vehicle density, numbering with a maximum of six digits without additional letters was sufficient. On the right side were up to six digits in Indo-Arabic notation. On the left side the sequence of digits was repeated in Latin-Arabic notation. In the middle was the country name Lebanon in Arabic and below that the French country name LIBAN . When the number range was exhausted, the new identification system was used

There was also a US format version of the earlier license plates.
