The 1957/58 season was the twelfth season of Class A as the highest Soviet ice hockey league . The Soviet championship title was secured for the sixth time by the ZSK MO Moscow , while six teams were relegated to the second division due to a league downsizing for the following season.

The 16 teams of Class A were divided into four groups with four participants each in the main round, with each team playing six games. Ultimately, however, several games were not held. Then the top two teams in each group played in the final round, in which they played four times against each group opponent, making the number of games per team 28. The team with the most points in the final round became champions. The remaining eight teams played against each other to stay up, with the two best teams in the relegation round remaining in class A after the 28 games and the remaining six teams relegated. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
