qualification

August 21, 1958, 11:15 a.m.

The eighteen participants competed in a joint qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 15.20 m. Seventeen athletes achieved this distance and were thus in the final (highlighted in light blue). Only one athlete dropped out. As in almost all jumping and throwing disciplines, the question arises why qualifications were even carried out under these circumstances.
