The women's 1,500-meter run at the 1997 World Athletics Championships was held from August 2nd to 5th, 1997 in the Olympic Stadium in the Greek capital, Athens .
World champion was the Portuguese World Cup third in 1995, Carla Sacramento . She won ahead of the American Regina Jacobs . Bronze went to Anita Weyermann from Switzerland .
