List of German speedway champions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of German speedway champions includes all individual speedway champions in the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR . The German championship is the most important competition for German speedway drivers. The finals take place at an annually changing location, with cities usually being selected in which rail sports are more popular, such as B. in half moon in the north in the Motodrom half moon or in the Paul Greifzu stadium in Stralsund . Before the finals, there are several qualifying rounds that the drivers have to survive in order to advance to the finals. A total of 17 drivers take part in the final. The defending champion is already set for the final.

The first championship was held in the GDR in 1962. The first championship in Germany followed in 1979. In 1991 and 2004 the championship was held in the Grand Prix system, whereby, similar to the World Championship , races, so-called Grand Prix, are held at different locations and the drivers receive points for their respective placements, which are added up to determine the champion . In addition, the German championships from 1991 to 2001 were held as international German championships , in which non-German drivers were allowed to participate.

There is also a German junior championship in which only drivers under the age of 21 are allowed to start. The team championship titles are awarded through the Bundesliga .
