On March 12, 1421
, about 200 Jews were burned on the Gänseweide, today Weißgerberlände.
This persecution of Jews was triggered by the
Austrian Duke Albrecht V
because of an alleged desecration of the host in Enns
and by the theological faculty in Vienna,
which suspected the Jews of collaborating with the Hussites.
A building of
the theological faculty in Vienna, newly constructed at that time, was built
from the stones of the destroyed synagogue.
