List of municipalities in the district of Lindau (Lake Constance)
The list of municipalities in the district of Lindau (Lake Constance) gives an overview of the 19 smallest administrative units in the district . Two of the municipalities, the large district town of Lindau (Lake Constance) and Lindenberg im Allgäu, are cities - Lindau is a medium-sized town , Lindenberg im Allgäu is a small town . Three parishes are markets . In its current form, the district was formed in the course of the Bavarian territorial reform in 1972 from the district of Lindau (Lake Constance) , the independent city of Lindau and the municipality of Stiefenhofen , which belonged to the district of Sonthofen before the regional reform . The current church structure was completed in 1979. The year in which they joined the municipality is noted for the suburbs of the municipalities.

The district can be further divided into three administrative communities (VG):
- VG Argental with the communities Gestratz , Grünenbach , Maierhöfen and Röthenbach (Allgäu) ;
- VG Sigmarszell with the communities Hergensweiler , Sigmarszell and Weißensberg ;
- VG Stiefenhofen with the municipalities of Oberreute and Stiefenhofen ;
The cities of Lindau and Lindenberg im Allgäu , the Heimenkirch market , Scheidegg and Weiler-Simmerberg and the communities of Bodolz , Hergatz , Nonnenhorn , Opfenbach and Wasserburg (Lake Constance) are not members of an administrative community.
The district has a total area of 323.37 km 2 . The city of Lindau has the largest area within the district with 33.18 km 2 . This is followed by the Weiler-Simmerberg markets with 31.3 km 2 and the municipality of Stiefenhofen with 28.96 km 2 . Three other municipalities have an area larger than 20 km 2 , nine are larger than 10 km 2 and four municipalities are less than 10 km 2 . The smallest areas are in the municipalities of Wasserburg (Bodensee) with 6.34 km 2 , Bodolz with 3.03 km 2 and Nonnenhorn with 1.96 km 2 .
The district town of Lindau (Lake Constance) with 25,512 inhabitants has the largest proportion of the district's population of 81,981, followed by the town of Lindenberg in the Allgäu with 11,525 and the Weiler-Simmerberg market with 6325. A municipality has a population of over 4,000, three have over 3,000 and four have over 2,000 residents. The remaining eight communities have over 1,000 residents. The three smallest communities are Maierhöfen with 1611, Grünenbach with 1510 and Gestratz with 1283 inhabitants.
The entire district of Lindau (Lake Constance) has a population density of Bodolz - with 1,005 inhabitants per km 2, followed by the city of Lindenberg im Allgäu with 973, the municipality of Nonnenhorn with 900 and the city of Lindau (Lake Constance) with 769. Each has a further municipality a population density of over 500 or 300 inhabitants per km 2 . The remaining municipalities are below the district average of 254 inhabitants per km 2 . One municipality has over 200 inhabitants per km 2 , eight municipalities have over 100 inhabitants per km 2 . The remaining four municipalities have a population density of less than 100 inhabitants per km 2 . The least populated municipalities are Gestratz with 85, Stiefenhofen with 65 and Grünenbach with 60 inhabitants per km 2 .
