List of municipalities in the district of Dillingen an der Donau
The list of municipalities in the district of Dillingen an der Donau gives an overview of the 27 smallest administrative units in the district . It consists of 27 parishes , five of which are small towns and three of which are markets . On January 1, 1939, the district offices of Dillingen an der Donau and Wertingen were renamed the district . From this point in time, the earliest that a main town belongs to the district is noted in the list. From 1878 to 1940 and from 1949 to 1972 Dillingen an der Donau was an independent city . In its current form, the district emerged after the Bavarian territorial reform in 1972. The current church structure was completed in 1979. The year in which they joined the municipality is noted for the suburbs of the municipalities.

The district can be further subdivided into six administrative communities (VG): VG Gundelfingen an der Donau , VG Höchstädt an der Donau , VG Holzheim , VG Syrgenstein , VG Wertingen and VG Wittislingen ; The cities Dillingen and Lauingen (Donau) as the markets Bissingen and the community Buttenwiesen not part of the management community.
The district has a total area of 792.3 km² . The city of Dillingen on the Danube has the largest area within the district with 75.59 km². This is followed by the Bissingen market with 64.22 km² and the municipality of Buttenwiesen with 59.49 km². The two cities, Gundelfingen an der Donau and Wertingen have an area of 53.97 and 51.8 km², respectively. The area of the city of Lauingen (Danube) and the municipality of Holzheim is over 40 km². The city of Höchstädt an der Donau has an area larger than 30 km². Seven municipalities are over 20 km² and eleven over 10 km²vv. Only the area of the municipality of Bächingen an der Brenz is 7.34 km² less than 10 km².
The major district town of Dillingen on the Danube with 19,149 inhabitants has the largest proportion of the district's population of 96,562 inhabitants, followed by the cities of Lauingen with 11,060 and Wertingen with 9346. The other two cities, Gundelfingen on the Danube and Höchstädt on the Danube, have a population of 7808 and 6774 inhabitants respectively. One parish has a population of over 5,000, three have over 3,000, two over 2,000, and 14 over 1,000. The two smallest municipalities in terms of population have less than 1,000 residents. These are Lutzingen with 999 and Zöschingen with 733 inhabitants.
The entire district of Dillingen an der Donau has a population density of Zöschingen with 50, Ziertheim with 49 and Lutzingen with 40 inhabitants per km².

The cities of Lauingen with 249, Dillingen with 253 and the municipality of Syrgenstein with 226 inhabitants per km² have the greatest population density within the district .
