Mainly consumed alcoholic beverages in the countries of Europe (measured by the consumption of pure alcohol) in 2010: Wine, Beer, Spirits




The World Health Organization (WHO) published in 2011 a global status report on alcohol and health ( Global status report on alcohol and health ). In this report, the damage to health and economic costs caused by alcohol consumption were estimated. The worldwide consumption of pure alcohol was estimated at 6.13 liters per person per year in 2005. A considerable part of this (28.6% or 1.76 liters) was accounted for by alcoholic beverages produced outside of state control. In 2014 a new report with updated figures was published.

The following table shows the values ​​determined in the context of this report for the mean alcohol consumption by country in the years 2008 to 2010. The amounts of alcohol consumed by tourists in typical holiday countries have been excluded from this overview.

This list shows the pure amounts of alcohol . The specification of 5 liters corresponds to about 83 liters for beer (about 6% alcohol), about 42 liters for wine (about 12% alcohol), and about 12.5 liters for spirits (Ø 40%).
