List of the tallest sacred buildings in Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Finial and pinnacle on the 64 m high viewing platform of the Bernese Minster , the highest church tower in Switzerland with a total of 100.6 m

The list of the tallest sacred buildings in Switzerland includes the 33 tallest buildings above 64 m in height. The list may not be complete.

Only church towers appear on the list (i.e. no domes or roof turrets ) and only buildings from the Roman Catholic and Evangelical Reformed regional churches . The Christian Catholic Church of Switzerland and the Free Churches do not have a church building of this height. The sacred buildings of Judaism , Islam and other faiths also do not reach the appropriate height. The highest minaret, for example, that of the Mosquée de Genève , built in 1978 , is 22 m high.

The noticeable accumulation of tower buildings in the 19th and early 20th centuries is essentially due to improved technical possibilities ( steel construction ), the stylistic zeitgeist ( Gothic Revival ) and urbanization . In some cases it is not a question of new church or tower buildings, but only new constructions of the tower top or spire .
