List of international singing competitions for classical music

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of international singing competitions for classical music includes music competitions for singers competing in the categories of opera aria, operetta, oratorio and song.

Choice and description

The list includes all singing competitions organized by the Fédération Mondiale des Concours Internationanux de Musique (FMCIM), otherwise only if the competition:

  • Has at least one category of its own for solo singing in classical music, and
  • is open to singers from different institutions, i.e. is not restricted to graduates of a particular music college or the ensemble of a particular opera, and
  • is open to international participants, both in terms of citizenship and residence, and
  • also has a considerable number of international participants, i.e. the international openness is not just theoretical,
  • has already been awarded at least three times, and its
  • Was first awarded at least five years ago, and
  • is listed in lists of respected classical music competitions in specialist magazines or the like

In the column competition categories only those evaluations are listed and counted that include classical singing. The year in the first award column refers to the year of the first award in the field of classical singing; a competition can have a long tradition in other categories, as in the case of the Reine Elisabeth Concours . The year in the FMCIM column is the date of joining the FMCIM if the host is an FMCIM member.
