Jussy is a municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland .

geography

The municipality also includes the hamlet of La Monniaz directly on the border with France (the boundary stones 132 and 135 form the highest points in the canton of Geneva at 517.7 m).

history

In 1180 the community was mentioned as Jussiacum Episcopi . Until 1850 the now independent community Gy belonged to Jussy. Until 1816, some communities around Jussy formed a Geneva exclave , as there was Savoyard territory between them and the city. The church dates from the early Middle Ages and was expanded twice and restored in 1974/75.

Le Crest Castle, built by Théodore Agrippa d'Aubigné in 1621 on the site of the previous medieval building that was destroyed in 1590, is located in the Jussy vineyard . This came into the possession of the Italian Micheli family in 1637, who named themselves after the Micheli du Crest castle. The most famous resident was the geodesist , cartographer and politician Jacques-Barthélemy Micheli du Crest .
