Mehmet is a male given name , which is particularly common in the Turkish , Albanian and Bosnian- speaking areas and is a Turkish variant of the Arabic name Muhammad .

meaning

Mehmet is a modification of Muhammad (after the Prophet Mohammed ) in Turkish. It originally means "the praised" or "the promised". This form of name was already known from the Ottoman Empire in Europe.

At the end of the word there is a "t" due to the Turkish final hardening . The name with an Arabic- based “d” at the end is less common .
