Michael Andrew "Mike" Fisher (* 5. June 1980 in Peterborough , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who in the course of his career over 1,200 games for the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League on the position of the center denied Has. He had already declared his active career ended in August 2017, but made a brief comeback with the Predators from February to May 2018. In 2012, Fisher received the NHL Foundation Player Award for his social commitment . He also won two world championship silver medals with the Canadian national team in 2005 and 2009 .

Career

The 1.85 m tall center forward began his career with the Sudbury Wolves in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League before he was selected in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft as 44th in the second round by the Ottawa Senators .

The right-shooter played his first NHL season in the 1999/2000 season , when he made 32 games for the Canadian capital club, scoring four times and providing five assists. During the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season , Fisher was on the ice at EV Zug in the Swiss National League A. After the season he returned to Ottawa to score his 22 goals and as many assists in the 2005/06 season 44 scorer points to deliver best series in the jersey of the Senators up to that time.

On December 27, 2006, Fisher suffered an injury to his right knee and had to take a four-week break. After his return, the unofficial fourth team captain soon showed his usual performance in the highest North American professional league. At the end of the season he reached the Stanley Cup final with the Senators, but was defeated there by the Anaheim Ducks . In the 2009/10 season , Fisher first scored over 50 points in the National Hockey League. In February 2011, the Senators gave him a first-round vote in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and a third-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft to the Nashville Predators .

In July 2014, Fisher tore his Achilles tendon and was out for about four months. In the following season 2015/16 Fisher completed his 1000th game in the NHL. In September 2016 he was introduced as the new team captain of the Predators, taking over from Shea Weber , who had moved to Montréal. At the end of the 2016/17 season, Fisher reached his second Stanley Cup final with the Predators, but lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins there . He then announced the end of his active career in August 2017 at the age of 37. In January 2018, however, it was surprisingly announced that Fisher and the Predators were working together on a comeback for the attacker. Finally, in February 2018, the attacker was given a contract until the end of the season. As a result, he reached the second playoff round with the team, but failed there because of the Winnipeg Jets . He then ended his career for good.

International

For Canada Fisher took part in the World Championships in 2005 and 2009 , in which the striker won the silver medal with Team Canada .

family

Since July 2010 Fisher is married to the American country singer Carrie Underwood . The couple has been dating since October 2008 after they met through mutual friends at a concert in Toronto . They got engaged in December 2009. Their son was born in February 2015.
