Murang'a County (until 2010 Murang'a District ) is a county in Kenya . The county's capital is Murang'a . The county has 1,056,640 inhabitants (2019) and an area of 2325.8 km².

The county is divided into three electoral districts (Mathioya, Kiharu, and Kangema) but has four MPs for parliament .
Geography and climate
Murang'a County lies at an altitude of 914 m above sea level in the east and 3353 m above sea level on the edge of the Aberdare Range . One eighth of the area is forested, the Wanjerere Forest on the Aberdare Range extends over about 174 km². In the lowlands in the east the maximum temperatures are between 26 ° C and 30 ° C, the minimum temperatures between 14 ° C and 18 ° C, in the highlands in the west the temperature can drop to 6 ° C.
Infrastructure
Murang'a County has 792 km of road network, 20 km of railroad tracks with a train station, seven main post offices and eight smaller post offices. The county has more than 340 schools.
Agriculture and ranching
The people of Murang'a County make a living from agriculture. Mainly tea , coffee beans , corn , macadamias and cotton are grown, but also mangoes , beans , cut flowers and potatoes . The main livestock are cattle, for example Ayrshire , Holstein and Guernsey cattle . In addition, domestic chickens and goats , in the lowlands zebus are common .
Flora and fauna
There are two large forests in Murang'a County, the Wanjerere Forest on the Aberdare Range and the Kiambicho Hills Forest in the lowlands. Tabernaemontana , Prunus africanum , croton , mulberry figs , grevillea and eucalyptus grow on over 11,000 hectares of state forest . Over 170 nurseries are reforestation in the county.
Throughout Murang'a County are vervet very common. There are also elephants , buffalo , bongos , black rhinos , lions , leopards , chimpanzees and hyenas , occasional crocodiles , hippos , white-throated monkeys , baboons and tortoises .
