The Arena Nürnberger Versicherung ( spelling : ARENA NÜRNBERGER VERSICHERUNG ), originally and in parlance also Arena Nürnberg , is a multifunctional arena in the central Franconian city of Nuremberg . The design comes from the Glöckner architectural office . The building is in the immediate vicinity of the Max Morlock Stadium , where the 1. FC Nürnberg soccer club plays.
history
Construction began on August 26, 1999 with the groundbreaking ceremony . The opening of the event arena was celebrated on February 15, 2001 and replaced the Linde Stadium from 1936 , which had been in use until then .
In 2011, extensive renovation work took place in the hall.
Furnishing
The hall has three ice rinks or, alternatively, 1,900 m² event space. Depending on the event, it can accommodate up to 11,000 visitors with interior, lower and upper tier. Beneath the hall roof, a video cube with four LED - screens (520 x 920 pixels per page), each having a size of about 17 m² comprise (a total of 69 m²). For ice hockey games, the stadium has a total of 8,130 people on 3,617 standing and 4,513 seats, 340 of them on box seats and 548 on business seats.
Naming
Following the example of other arenas, the hall operators signed a sponsorship contract with Nürnberger Versicherung in February 2005 . Since then, the hall has officially been called "Arena Nürnberger Versicherung".
Events
The Thomas Sabo Nürnberg Ice Tigers play their DEL home games in the arena . In 2001 the ice hockey world championship took place next to Cologne and Hanover in the arena, as did the IIHF inline hockey world championship in 2002 and 2003 . The GHP Bamberg moved to the Nürnberg Arena in 2005 and 2006 for its international basketball games , but indoor soccer competitions (indoor cup of 1. FC Nürnberg ), handball, tennis and boxing are also held here. In addition, WWE wrestling events take place in the arena, most recently on November 14, 2008 and November 11, 2010. There are also concerts and shows. Performing musicians and bands include a. Robbie Williams , Peter Maffay , Anastacia , Pink , Die Ärzte , Elton John , OneRepublic , Bryan Adams , Udo Jürgens , Bob Dylan and Herbert Grönemeyer . The arena also serves as an additional stage at the Rock im Park rock festival .
The arena is also used for conferences and exhibitions. During the ice skating season, the areas in the ice sports center are regularly available to the public.
In the Pollstar ranking of visitor numbers in 2018, the hall was 13th in Germany with 63,184 visitors, 47th in Europe and 188th worldwide.
